CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) represents a fundamental change in European trade and environmental policy. From October 2023, new notification obligations apply to imports of selected commodities (e.g. steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen and electricity), which will be complemented by the obligation to purchase CBAM certificates from 2026. CBAM applies not only to importers but also to brokers and customs declarants.
