PST CLC Mitsui-Soko, which specialises in customs services, transportation and warehousing, acquired its own Renault tractor-trailer with a mega-trailer for international shipments in February. It will continue to expand its fleet. In doing so, PST CLC Mitsui-Soko is responding to the demands of its customers, who see the advantage of having their own trucks in full control of the goods.

Until now, the company has been operating its own trucks for domestic transport, while other domestic and foreign routes have been provided through contractual partners. PST CLC Mitsui-Soko’first-ever international truck will mostly be dispatched to Germany, France, Spain and the Benelux countries. “Of course, we will also continue to work with contract carriers for international shipments. We now use our own canvas truck for full-load transport. For example, we transport aluminium extrusions for the automotive industry, warehouse perimeter panels, wooden packaging for engines and other products,” says Jiří Faltýn, Forwarding Project Manager at PST CLC Mitsui-Soko.

He adds that the internal height of the mega trailer is three metres, while the standard trailer is 270 cm high. “For some clients, mega trailers are very convenient because they design the goods to maximize capacity. So instead of the traditional seventy cubic metres, we can transport up to 100 cubic metres of cargo, but the weight is limited to the same, 24 tonnes,” says Jiří Faltýn. He says there is also interest in linking the Mitsui-Soko PST CLC tracking system with clients’ systems, so that clients can keep track of vehicle movements in their systems.

For many companies today, the appeal of sustainability is crucial, and the use of mega-trailers corresponds to this. “Sustainability in transport is a trend to which we are actively responding. Customers are increasingly concerned about the carbon footprint they leave behind in transport,” says Jan Bláha, Director of Transport at PST CLC Mitsui-Soko.
