Growing interest in co-packing service
In this article, we will look at co-packing in more detail. There has been a long-standing interest in value-added services on the market, and PSTC CLC Mitsui-Soko offers co-packing both to its clients for whom it provides storage in its warehouses (in-house co-packing) and to other companies from the FMCG, automotive and other segments (contract co-packing). PST CLC Mitsui-Soko also focuses on cross-dock co-packing, where products are processed in a cross-docking mode and distributed after repackaging.
Qualitative and quantitative control, assembly…
The company provides co-packing for both food and non-food goods. Co-packing in the field of automotive companies includes services such as quality and quantity control, assembly, modular assembly, insertion of instructions and labelling. In the cosmetics sector, this may include, for example, co-packing of cosmetic kits and sets, repackaging into sales units, promo packs, labelling and repackaging.
In cross-dock co-packing PST CLC Mitsui-Soko assumes the role of intermediary between the supplier/manufacturer and the end customer. Contract co-packing can be time-limited events focusing on promotional processing and seasonal demand for production and warehouse capacity, with links to customs services and freight.
Co-packing as an effective part of the supply chain
“The advantage of working with us as a co-packing service provider is cost savings. Thanks to a larger number of customers, we are able to set up the work in the warehouses to be as efficient as possible, and clients save money because they do not have to deal with staffing and space issues. Co-packing is therefore an efficient part of the supply chain,” says Petr Fejk, co-packing manager at PST CLC Mitsui-Soko, who has about 20 years of experience in logistics and co-packing.
PST CLC Mistui-Soko expects to increase turnover and further consolidate its market position thanks to the interest in these services and the massive deployment of the new service across warehouses.
Intermediate stop within the logistics chain
“Co-packing is advantageous for companies because they do not have to provide the necessary tasks with their own capacities in their own premises, which is always costly. We create an intermediate stop within the logistics chain, we perform packaging treatment of goods according to the customer’s requirements and the goods then proceed from our warehouse to the destination, where the customer does not have to deal with any further operations,” Petr Fejk describes an example of contractual co-packing.
Until now, PST CLC Mitsui-Soko has only provided co-packing services to some clients who used the company’s warehouses for storage.
“Due to our wide stock availability, we will also offer co-packing abroad. We plan to focus even more on Austria, as our warehouses in Pohořelice and Brno are very accessible for the local market,” says David Zimandl, CFO of PST CLC Mitsui-Soko.
